Ryde Church Boy Scout Troop 1910-1914
We've just had an amazing gift from team member Alan Nicholls. He's the Bristol South Badge Secretary, so I'm guessing he's a bit of a collector of Scouting Memorabilia. About 30 years ago he acquired a set of photos of Ryde Scouts at camp in about 1910 - 1914. The photos are of varying quality from very good to badly faded. I've quickly scanned them as high resolution images (around 15Mb each and over 1Gb in total) and reduced the size of them for this post - sorry, I haven't had time to crop the files. Contact me if you'd like to see the high resolution versions.
Incidentally, the Ryde Parish Church Boy Scouts Troop became the 1st Ryde Scout Group.
I've designed the post as a photo of each group of photos then individual close-ups. I'm not sure that I've decoded the handwriting correctly, so please send me any thoughts via the Facebook page.

The 1914 International Camp was held in the municipality of Berchem-Saint-Agathe in Brussels and involved English, French, Belgian and Russian Scouts. One of the photos features the Chief Scout of Belgium, General Corbierei (?). Scouting was founded in Belgium in April 1914. Another photo features the Ghent Scouts.
The camp finished on August 3rd. On August 4th Germany invaded Belgium, the start of WWI.
Thanks again Allan, these are great!
